BOOKS, QUOTES, and STUFF
Here is yet another work in progress. Right now only you AS visitors
have access to this page. It will be added to my site when I get a
chance to organize it better. I hope to expand this
to include a bibliography, perhaps even with book reviews. So please
e-mail me if you have
anything to contribute on any of these topics.
BOOKS
History/Archaeology Books (Historical Non-Fiction)
- Rome in Africa by Susan Raven
-
Carthage, A History by Serge Lancel, translated by Antonia Nevill, 1994, 1997
Reviewed by 'Carmine': The original French copyright is 1992 and the English translation
1995. It is published by Blackwell Publishers of Oxford and
Cambridge, Mass.
What is so intriguing about it is it's approach. Lancel is professor
of archaeology at the University of Grenoble and for the past 30
years has excavated at Carthage. Because of this, his book is not
only a history, but a great guide to all the archaeological
discoveries. And there are loads and loads of pictures, drawings
and maps. Anyone who wants a concise guide to Carthage all in one
place should go out and get this book.

Carthage would be the ruler of the world."

Stood Dido with a willow in her hand
Upon the wild sea-banks, and waft her love
To come again to Carthage"
